After 13 years in a large leased office in South Leeds, UK General Insurance Limited moved its 100-strong team to a serviced office at Carrwood Park in August 2020. Executive Personal Assistant Darren Buxton led the transition.

Space with a purpose

UKGIL’s old 19,000 sq ft building in Hunslet sat on a full repairing lease, leaving the business responsible for rates, cleaning, security and repairs, for a space that was not being used effectively. WorkWell’s culture-driven, flexible model offered a more cost-effective alternative. “Moving to Carrwood Park has allowed us to look at the space we have and how we use it,” Darren said. “It gives us flexibility and room to grow, and it offers value for money.”

It took away the headaches

The all-inclusive model removed the day-to-day burden. “The attraction of Carrwood Park for me was it took away the headaches,” Darren said. “Business rates are included, the handyman can come across for repairs, and you don’t have to worry about security. On moving in, everything was sorted for us. We didn’t even have to source office furniture. They made everything so easy.”

A modern, collaborative workspace

Moving during a pandemic could have been fraught, but having the WorkWell team handle Covid-safe communal areas freed UKGIL to focus on its people. A flexible structure, with a couple of days in the office each week, has helped lift morale and support wellbeing. “People crave interaction with colleagues and need to see the bigger picture, which is hard to achieve remotely,” Darren said.
